I started out listing my arrangements within Music With Simone, with links out to Gumroad and Sheet Music Plus to purchase them. I don’t check the analytics all that often, but when I saw how much traffic was coming to my site first and then going over to Sheet Music Plus for songs that are public domain, I realised I was far better off bringing everything back in-house. However with a Student Portal on Music With Simone, it would have been too cluttered to have a second set of logins for an entirely different audience, and thus the need arose to entirely separate out the sheet music sales component of my website from the teaching side.
Contemporary music that is still under copyright does need to be purchased through Sheet Music Plus, as they handle all the licensing. However anything that is within the public domain can now be purchased here, which in time will give me a lot more flexibility with pricing, such as being able to offer it at a lower price than the minimum cost that sites like Sheet Music Plus require.
For now there’s just 2 public domain arrangements available (which were my best sellers on Sheet Music Plus anyway!). But over time I’ll digitise another 30+ hand-written arrangements, and I also have other digital arrangements of contemporary pieces I play at Park Jam that I will tweak and make available in due course as well.
