When time permits, I attend a monthly “Park Jam” session, where amateur guitarists play and sing 20 contemporary cover songs. There’s a different set each month, with half carrying over from the previous month, plus 10 new songs. It’s a lot of new material to get through over the course of the year!
For these sessions, the guitarists receive lead sheets (lyrics + chords) to strum along. When I join in, I endeavour to provide the keyboard / synth parts and/or other key parts (eg saxophone / brass / strings etc). Unless the songs have actual piano parts, I usually find keyboard parts hard to source. So I often write arrangements for myself to play these accompaniment parts.
In these arrangements for Park Jam, I like to write out the vocal part with the chord symbols, both to follow, and to sing along! I also write out key parts where there are particular keyboard / synth parts that can be heard. That way I can add in chords / arpeggios / solos with the right rhythm / melody as appropriate.
I am publishing these arrangements for other keys players to play these songs along with a band / in jam sessions.
The published arrangements include:
- a cover sheet with previews of both the score and lead sheet
- the keyboard score with vocal line
- a stand alone lead sheet
