When time permits, I attend a monthly “Park Jam” session, where amateur guitarists play and sing 20 contemporary cover songs. The guitarists receive lead sheets to strum along. When I join in, I aim to provide the keyboard / synth parts or other instruments that can be heard (eg saxophone / brass / strings etc). Unless the songs have actual piano parts, I usually find keyboard parts hard to source. So I often write arrangements for myself to play.
This is one of those arrangements that I play at Park Jam. I like to write out the vocal part (both to follow, and to sing along!) with the chord symbols, so it can stand alone as a lead sheet. I also write out key parts where there are particular keyboard / synth parts that can be heard. That way I can add in chords / arpeggios / solos with the right rhythm / melody as appropriate.
When writing this keyboard / vocal arrangement of Live It Up, I really found nothing else out there aside from the lyrics. I’ve primarily relied on what key parts I could hear in a recording of a live performance.
