Lead sheet of the popular Christmas carol “Deck the Halls“.
The melody for “Deck the Halls” is based on the traditional Welsh New Year’s carol “Nos Galan”. Dating
back to the 16th Century, it was first published in 1794. The English lyrics, published in 1862, were written by Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant. Originally the word “hall” was singular, with the plural appearing in 1892.
A couple of Aussie variants to the lyrics exist, as “Deck the Sheds“. These are the first “Deck the Shed” lyrics I’d come across a few decades ago; there’s also a version by Colin Buchanan.
